The lcd welding goggles take a split second to turn dark and that time adds up badly. By supplying a very bright light to the subject, I can see the item being welded through regular goggles.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-401164737462963207.post-18832080970973432882012-04-06T10:26:19.775-07:002012-04-06T10:26:19.775-07:00Nice work, but I think too that it is a prrof of c...Nice work, but I think too that it is a prrof of concept.
How about the very short lifetime of such lamps, and the huge replacement cost ?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-401164737462963207.post-15504308175437069472012-02-27T11:28:53.006-08:002012-02-27T11:28:53.006-08:00Well it is a fun project, but I have to say it is ...Well it is a fun project, but I have to say it is proof of concept. HID lamps give off enormous amounts of UV light, and you can damage your eyes without even realizing it.

At one point I was working on building a DIY projector out of an old LCD monitor (it's on the wayside while I'm away at school). The HID lamp I got was 400w, and it used a large aquarium lamp ballast to power it.
Here's a video of the first time I powered it up:
http://youtu.be/pi-DaTNUOmoAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08976507737328208892noreply@blogger.com
