This is great Ben! Like you, I've built my own PID kiln. I've been following the tool steel supplier's heat treating procedure blindly, without knowing the why's and wherefore's. Now I get it! Great video. Over the past few weeks I've been trying to learn more about treating steel, but I was just having the hardest time understanding it; I've searched all over the place for information.
